#PT 01 Watercolor Painting

Develop and explore the foundations for making successful watercolor paintings under the guidance of our watercolor expert Glenda Drennen. An introduction to composition and various techniques will be presented. Each week, investigate new strategies of employing experimental approaches to this ancient and interesting medium. Students must provide their own supplies, however paper will be available to purchase. Please bring a snack or sack lunch. *This class is available for renewal credit through NWAEA.

#PT 02 Illustrative Acrylic Painting
  with Mark Kochen  
January 8 - February 26 (8 weeks)

In a winter slump and your paintings reflect the sentiment? Spend Sunday afternoons with fellow passionate artists under the guidance of well-known artist Mark Kochen. Students will design and create unique illustrative landscapes and characters with the goal of telling a story through their work. Special emphasis will be placed upon refinement of the product, presentation and personalization of the subject matter and final product. There will be discussions of composition, color selection, mixing paint, creative philosophy, story- telling, and brush techniques. Students are encouraged to bring their own paint and supplies, however a canvas, paint and brushes will be available.

In my paintings, I mostly focus on the cute, adorable, whimsical and goofy. My goal as an artist is to satisfy my need to create and secondly to improve the quality of life of those around me by encouraging the lighthearted.”—Mark Kochen

All students taking classes during the current term are welcomed and encouraged to work independently.  Even though there will be no instruction, sharing a common work environment and informal critiques with other students can be helpful in the development of one’s work.
